Can Chiropractors cure childhood ear infections and prevent the need for TUBES?

I’m often asked about natural remedies for childhood ear infections.  Truth is, it’s super common and

many children suffer from recurring infections.  Parents struggle to understand the cause and just want their little one to not be in pain all the time.

This was the case for me as well.  My daughter Guinnevere had recurring ear infections when she was little, around age 3-5yrs. Eventually we noticed that she was not hearing well at all, almost not hearing AT ALL, and so we took her to an ENT.

The Ear Nose and Throat Specialist said that the cause was a buildup of fluid behind her eardrum, the consistency of which was so thick that it would never drain on it’s own.  The ONLY way to treat her was with surgery to insert ear tubes.

Ear Tubes can have complications and it made us nervous especially since we spend a lot of time swimming and at the beach, etc.  We learned that with tubes kids aren’t supposed to get water in their ears.  *However I did later find conflicting info on this and we learned that children can get their ears wet.

I do understand that in terms of surgery, having ear tubes put in is a relatively simple surgery with a fast recovery, but if you’re like us, if surgery can be prevented well then we’re going to try and prevent it.

I can’t remember where I heard about it but I learned that Chiropractors claim to be able to treat and prevent ear infections by doing adjustments and making sure the child is properly aligned which promotes overall health and function of all the bodies systems, etc. My husband is a skeptic and thought it was just junk science but neither of us wanted her to have the surgery so we decided to try it.

I took my daughter to the Chiropractor 2-3 times a week for 2 weeks and after just a couple visits she was hearing fine and almost back to normal. She’s now 10 yrs old and has never had another ear infection or trouble with fluid buildup in her life. We also never took her back to the Chiropractor after those couple weeks of visits.

We always wondered, did she just grow out of it, is it a coincidence that she was cured and that her hearing came back almost immediately after a few chiropractic adjustments? Then it happened again with my son. Same thing. Can barely hear, earaches all the time, ENT said absolutely must get tubes ASAP and that there was NO way for the ears to drain on their own.

This time we knew we’d go back to the Chiro.  We took him in to our local Chiropractor and again, just a couple weeks later, maybe 3-5 adjustments and he was totally back to normal and hasn’t had a problem since.

I’m sharing this story in the event that someone might be looking for alternatives to the ENT.  I can’t promise this will work for everyone and I can’t even promise that it’s what worked for us but after two kids I no longer wonder if it’s just a coincidence.
