Concerned about your exposure to chemicals and toxins?

This post may contain affiliate links

For most of us, our personal exposure to chemicals and toxins is an important issue but not necessarily something we spend a ton of time deeply considering.  We think about our exposure in much simpler, superficial ways.  We try not to inhale smoke, we turn the other way when spraying a bug, we wear gloves when cleaning and are concerned about the purity of the water we drink.

What we don’t consider is how many toxins our bodies absorb not only through inhalation, but through what we eat, what we touch, what we put on our skin, what we wear and even what we wash what we wear with!

Director Ed Brown’s film Unacceptable Levels addresses the problem, below the surface.  We’re all absorbing chemicals and toxins into our bodies all the time, but where and how they go there?  Well that’s exactly what he hopes to point out.

I have been blissfully unaware of this for a long time until I started seeing how a lot of our ingredients in food & body products are banned in other countries! Now I am a lot more interested in what goes near me.

Just recently I have really started thinking about this…in depth. It’s very overwhelming. I think this film would be great for me (and everyone else) to watch. I’ve gotten to where it’s a fear for me to use our microwave since I’ve watched and read experiments on how bad they are for us. I’m mostly worried about my kids because it seems exposure to chemicals and toxins is just getting worse.

Last year I was concerned about my daughter getting bitten by mosquitoes but far more concerned about spraying her with a bunch of chemicals to keep bugs away. I found an awesome alternative at a health food/supplement store. All natural materials and it worked like a charm!

I never really thought about this until I was pregnant with my first child and then I really only considered his products. While pregnant with my second child (and still a continuing process), I really started to switch everything in our house to toxin-free options. I never realized how many toxins were in my house!! Thanks for the truegoods website! Another resource I like is the ewg skin deep database: http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/

nothing is toxin free. not even the air is toxin free. but we can cut back on ‘toxins’ . personally, we do unbleached flour, homemade bread, foods. gardening as toxin free as possible, we did a soil test,no ‘miracle grow’ or ‘dustings .

This is a topic I’ve been thinking more and more about. I’ve tried to start with the most obvious thing in my house, cleaners, and I’ve eliminated most products, but we still have done convenience items that I can’t seem to pry away from everyone! My oldest daughter and I also recently starting making our own organic body products. We would like to continue expanding and experimenting in this area!

It is scary to think of all the toxins we can put into our bodies on a daily basis without really giving it much thought. I am so glad to have the resources and the choice of what we use.

I’m looking forward to seeing this. I definitely have my head in the sand when it comes to toxins and the products I use. I need to learn more for my own health and especially my baby’s.
