Hopefully you all noticed the great review and giveaway that published to the Cloth Diaper Geek Blog on Thursday! In that post you’ll see just how unique GoGreen Pocket Diapers are. The cool thing is that the mama behind the company is just as special! I got a chance to have her answer a few questions and I am going to share my interview with you all below. Enjoy!
Who is the mama behind the company? Leah Leverich, is a 29 year old Ph.D.living in beautiful Boulder, CO. She is the Founder and CEO of GoGreen Pocket Diapers. She lives with her husband Don and their three kids, Channing(4), Jaxson(2), and Caleb(10 months).
How did Leah first find out about modern cloth diapers and at what point did she decide she’d like to become a manufacturer? Leah became acquainted with modern cloth diapers when her middle son was 11 months old and she’d had it with pesky night-time leaking and daily sheet changes. At that point she caved in and bought an expensive popular brand of cloth diaper. She’d been using a combo of disposables and 2 g-flushable inserts and it wasn’t cutting it. Thankfully, the cloth diaper did the trick! So she figured one issue down, one to go because clearly, the price tags on the quality cloth diapers were just too high. “I had SO many ideas about how to fix the situation with modern cloth diapers, I like to
say that we’re like Dyson – fixing the obvious problems others seem to ignore,” said Leverich. In the next couple of months, armed with prowess and motivation, Leah pursued a path to a manufacturer who would work with her to actualize her dream, creating her own line of premium cloth diapers, loaded with features, that are affordable for “the rest of us”.
What’s the most exciting part about being in the cloth diaper industry? The moms and the sense of community she’s creating through GoGreen Pocket diapers! As a woman in the sciences holding a post-doctoral research position at the University of Colorado Boulder, Leah hadn’t felt much in common with her peers as most of them do not have multiple children at a young-ish age. She’s at times felt isolated. Leah says, “Now that I’m in contact with MANY cloth diapering moms, I finally have so much in common with my new peer group and it feels normal, and that I am not alone and am part of a larger community! It is one of the most deeply satisfying and comforting events in my life.”

What are her future goals for GoGreen Pocket Diapers? Leah would like GGPD to be able to provide affordable cloth diapers to even more people, by selling the line in retail outlets across the country. She says, “There is a huge void in the market, and I think we are ideally situated to fill it. We truly believe in our mission, which is that by lowering the price of modern cloth diapers, we can get more families to convert, which benefits both family finances and ultimately the environment.”
What accomplishment is she most proud of? Leah is most proud of creating GGPD. “I have had many academic achievements, but none has been nearly as fulfilling as creating such a wonderful business for a cause with which I am so personally in touch. I am so happy to find other moms like myself, with values that are similar. It is one of the most comforting experiences of my life and it gives me strength! I know GGPD is doing something GOOD in the world,” she relates.
What one piece of advice would she give to a new mom thinking about converting to cloth diapers? Her advice is to use disposables the first two weeks (muconeum is no fun to wash out!). Then buy the GoGreen Champ, because it fits smaller babies better than other OS diapers without the need to buy specific NB diapers. And, if the diapers don’t fit at first, be patient. You will be CD’ing for approximately two years, so the first two months are not a reason to give up if the diapers don’t fit or are not convenient at the time. Remember both the financial savings and the environment in the long run.
