DIY: Homemade Haircuts. They won’t know if I screw up right?

This post may contain affiliate links

My mama is a hair stylist so I won’t say I’m totally clueless when it comes to cutting hair, but since she’s always able to do my hair and everyone else in the family for no charge, there’s never been much need for me to test my knowledge.

With the shaggy, semi-curly look that my twins have, combined with the fact that they’re 5 yrs old and will have NO clue if I really mess up…I decided to just go for it the other day when we noticed they needed a trim.

Hey, it’s green because you don’t have to drive anywhere, it’s frugal because you don’t have to pay anything and depending on your kids hair type it can be pretty easy to fake it til’ you make it!

So how about you?  Do you cut your family’s hair?  Have you ever messed up?

I tried cutting my son’s bangs once and he looked like Jim Carey’s character on “Dumb & Dumber.” Haha! From then and out my DH and I have decided that he gets to cut hair b/c he’s more precise where I just want to get the job done! It’s a two person job though b/c my son freaks out over the clippers’ noise.

For the longest time, I used to question my Mom, “How could you let them do that to me?” when I’d see pictures of my awful bowl-shaped haircut growing up. I always assumed that she took me in to a SuperCuts or something, and that it was the hair stylists’ fault. Last year, when I made the comment after looking through growing-up pictures, she said, “I did the best I could!” I was shocked. She had cut my hair, and didn’t tell me for years!

When my kiddos are big enough, I will probably do the same thing though… :-)

I cut my family’s hair. So far so good (knock on wood!). My mother always cut my hair when I was little and sometimes she did the bangs a little silly, but we were poor and I don’t blame her.

I can trim my daughter’s hair, but for the boys I prefer a stylist because the military-style cuts I like (high-and-tight) are beyond my ability!

My sister cut my hair until I left college and moved away from grad school… even now every once in a while she still cuts it for me. The last time I tried to cut my own hair was the last time I tried to cut my own hair. It was bad enough that I had to have someone fix my very crooked bangs :)

I buzz Hubby’s hair all the time but leave my girls’ and my own hair to the professionals.
