It’s a wrap!  The Great Cloth Diaper Change 2014 was a success!

The Great Cloth Diaper Change, creating community, connecting families, promoting cloth diaper use.

The cliché phrase “changing the world one cloth diaper at a time,” no matter how overused, rang true this weekend at the Great Cloth Diaper Change location where I volunteered in Virginia Beach and at many other locations worldwide.

From the total newbie attendee who didn’t even own a cloth diaper yet to the seasoned veteran, each Great Cloth Diaper Change event proves one thing, cloth does matter, people do care, and we are changing the world and the future.

Why host a Great Cloth Diaper Change location?

While some families think “one cloth diaper won’t make a difference” or they don’t want to and can’t afford to cloth diaper full-time, the truth is, it does make a difference!  With babies needing to be changed thousands of times between birth and potty training, just one cloth diaper change a day has the potential to save 1095 disposable diapers from the landfill, assuming that child needs diapering through age 3, which many do.

As a community, a movement, an industry, I feel it’s extremely important to continue to promote cloth diapering as something awesome, something fun and also something easy to do. While choosing to cloth diaper full-time takes commitment, cloth diapering part-time or even less still makes a HUGE difference and should be considered equally as important and worthy of promotion and recognition.

There can be cost involved in hosting a Great Cloth Diaper Change location and it certainly does take work, but it’s well worth it. Of the hundreds of cloth diaper retailers, manufacturers, and moms groups in existence, only a fraction choose to host their own location.  I’m hopeful that as each year passes our location numbers grow allowing more and more families the opportunity to participate in this annual event. The continual promotion of cloth diaper use is vital to the growth of our local businesses and our industry and each year while GCDC may not seem like that big of a deal to skip attending or hosting, it is having an impact and is spreading awareness.

The Great Cloth Diaper Change 2014 was my fourth year hosting and/or volunteering and I loved every second of it.  If you attended or hosted I commend you. If you did not, I challenge you.
