On my way to a happier, healthier me thanks to Barlean’s!
Guess what!? I’m ON THE WAGON again. Friends and family know I’m one of those on again off again health nuts. Even when I’m “off” I’m not a soda drinking junk food-a-holic but I am easily and often tempted by and addicted to sugar and carbs. Bagels, cheese, crackers and cereal are my weakness. We’re a fairly health conscious family and take great care to make sure our kids get balanced meals with lots of greens, fruits and proteins. When I say I’m “on the wagon again” I mean that I’m trying to resist eating two whole bagels smothered in cream cheese for breakfast, a quesadilla for lunch and a baked potato with cheese for dinner. Trying means I’m eating rice cakes instead of bread, making smoothies and green juice, eating Stonyfield Yogurt instead of grilled cheese sandwiches and taking supplements like Barlean’s MCT Swirl.
When Stonyfield offered us the chance to work with Barlean’s on a sponsored post I jumped at the chance and was not disappointed by the goodies sent for review. Already a fan of the MCT Swirl, I knew I’d love the Barlean’s Omega Swirls, Coconut Oil, Flax-Chia-Coconut Blend and Forti-Flax I was sent.
My kids and I taste-tested the Swirls when they arrived and even they had a hard time choosing a favorite. Seeing the words FISH OIL on the package had them a little worried but the taste tests proved that not all fish oil has to leave a bad taste in your mouth.
Due to a shipping discrepancy I was accidentally sent WAY more Barlean’s than they originally intended so I have been able to bless friends and family with some the same products I am using and loving. My mom, at age 66, already takes fish oil daily so I gave her three bottles of the Omega Swirl to use. My sister-in-law and brother-in-law, both vegan, got a bottle of the Vegan Total Omega Swirl to try.
What else am I to do with the extra Barlean’s I was sent? Experiment of course! See below for a fun smoothie recipe featuring Barlean’s and Stonyfield Whole Milk Greek Yogurt!
- Stonyfield Whole Milk Greek Yogurt
- Frozen Strawberries
- Frozen Blueberries
- 1-2 tbsp Total Vegan Omega Swirl (depending on size of smoothie)
- 1/8 cup Flax-Chia-Coconut Blend
Depending on the size of the smoothie you’re making and the amount of people you’re making it for, you’ll need to use the appropriate amounts of ingredients listed above. Substitute the Stonyfield yogurt for apple sauce or an additional banana to keep it totally vegan.
The result was BERRY delicious and even my kids loved it. They were worried the Flax-Chia-Coconut blend I included would make it taste grainy and weird but thanks to the super blending power of my Blendtec it was nice and creamy while also being jam packed full of Omegas 3,6, 9, plant based proteins and fiber.
If you’re looking to put the health back in your health food I highly suggest you check out Barlean’s for quality and tasty supplements and ingredients sure to help improve your quality of life.
