DIY: Homemade Sparkly Peppermint Playdough!

This post may contain affiliate links

My little guys got to make this fun DIY playdough at school today and I was so impressed by how it turned out that I wanted to share it with you all.

Here’s the Recipe:

Sparkly Peppermint Playdough

  • 2 Cups Flour
  • 2 Cups Water
  • 1 Cup Salt
  • 4 tsp Cream of Tartar
  • 4 tbsp oil
  • 4 tsp Peppermint Extract
  • Glitter (optional)
  • Food Coloring (optional)

Mix all ingredients in a heavy saucepan.  Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon, until the mixture thickens and pulls away from the sides of the pan.  Form dough into a ball, sprinkle with glitter, place on waxed paper and cool completely.  Store in ziplock bags.

Our dough was colored with red food coloring making it pink and it smelled just like candy canes!  It’s super soft and pliable and easy for little hands to mold, shape and re-form.

Give it a try!  Have fun!

Do you mean 4 TABLESPOONS of peppermint extract? Seems like a lot.

I changed it to tsp, thanks. But you could use less or omit it all together. The fragrance is pretty strong but it adds to the holiday feel of the project. It smells like candy canes!
