Well let me start by saying, last year in August, I attended BlogHer in San Deigo and I was privileged enough to win a Playstation 3 system with….eight games! Yes, crazy I know! We’re not necessarily a gaming family, ok I should say, we weren’t at that time…lol So I wasn’t even fully aware of what I had just won.
It was hard but we managed to save the whole system a PS3, Eye, Motion Controllers and all the games until Christmas and we made that our big surprise for the holiday. It worked out perfectly.
We already had a Wii so I was thinking we don’t really need two game consoles but the PS3 plays Blue Rays and DVD’s and we didn’t already own a DVD player, so for that simple fact we were going to use it and keep it and if anything, retire or get rid of the Wii.
Fast forward a few months. I’d been wanting to blog about the Playstation but I’m a cloth diapering, natural parenting, eco-friendly living blogger so I wasn’t sure how I’d incorporate my opinions and review into something that could be helpful and relevant to you all, my readers.
Then it happened. We’ve unleashed the beast! Rather I guess you could say, as non-gamers, we’ve finally begun to realize the full extent of the system I won back in August.
A few of the amazing things we like about it are…
- Rechargeable remotes/controllers! Seriously. With out Wii controllers it seems like almost daily that they needed the dang batteries replaced. The ease with which you can plug in the PS3 remotes and recharge them any time makes this my #1 favorite feature. It’s #green because we save green and we don’t have to keep buying more and more AA batteries.
- Netflix, Internet, Amazon Prime and more! Since realizing we can access the internet and watch some of our favorite shows online via the PS3, plus using it to watch Netflix, Amazon Prime Instant Videos and to rent videos on the Playstation Store, we’ve canceled our cable tv. It feels great to be able to save even more money and to kick our cable tv habit.
- Games, BueRays and DVD’s! We love how versatile the system is and that we can play regular dvds, blue ray disks and Playstation games from the past. You don’t just have to buy new games. You can save a ton and it’s #green to be able to buy used, older model playstation games that can still work on this new system.
That’s essentially being able to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle! Woot!
As far as gaming, we’re loving it! By far my favorite is Little Big Planet 2 and my husband loved Infamous 2. The kids are crazy about the new Shrek game and Start the Party was a huge hit!
I’d also have to say that the one on one communication by email and in person at Blogher between myself and the Playstation team was superb. I truly felt like they had my families best interests in mind and that they really really wanted us to be able to make the most of having won this. The customer service and friendliness alone, combined with their desire to please me, is enough to have me singing their praise, let alone some of the things I have learned to love about our PS3.
So yes, I am a now a loyal Playstation fan and with each day we learn something new about our system and it’s capabilities and I know we’ve only just scratched the surface.
So Thank You BlogHer and Thank You Playstation for being so awesome and totally MAKING our Christmas!
Are you a gaming family? Do you love your Playstation as much as we do?
