Stainless Steel Drinking Straws, non-toxic, durable and eco-friendly
In a world where convenient and often disposable products usually reign supreme over reusables, we tend to over-think going green. We think big and often look toward replacing the products with the most impact like diapers, water bottles and plastic shopping bags before we consider alternatives to some of the smaller, simpler products in our daily lives.
Enter reusable drinking straws. I know what you’re thinking, they’ll be hard to clean. As parents we know all to well that those swirly, curly fun straws our kids got with their free soda are nearly impossible to clean and often end up right in the trash. THOSE, are not the reusable straws I’m referring to.
Glass straws and stainless steel straws are available on Amazon and make so much sense. While single-use straws are cheap, usually less than a dollar for a package of 50-100, it doesn’t mean they aren’t worth giving up.
Glass and stainless steel straws are bpa-free, phthalate free, pvc free and they are easy to clean and sanitize. They come in a variety of styles and sizes, this was important to our family because we drink a lot of shakes and thick smoothies and can’t use really skinny drinking straws.
We chose the stainless steel option over glass, with the little ones I thought they’d be safer and more durable. We invested in two packs of four and they’ve been plenty for our family of five. They’re sturdy, easy to use, easy to keep track of and go right into the dishwasher for cleaning.
While I can’t say “oh I’m saving a fortune by using stainless steel drinking straws” I can say we’re saving hundreds of plastic single use straws and their packaging from landfills and I can rest assured my kids aren’t chewing on chemical-laden plastic.
Little things do make a difference so the next time you’re looking for ways to become a little more eco-friendly, look toward the smaller things in life.
So tell me, what are some of your favorite reusable household products?
