Funny how it happens, being a cloth diaper retailer may not seem all that glamorous to the outside world but within the cloth diapering community, especially online, you feel a sort of celebrity status.
Customers constantly asking for support, bloggers pleading their cases on a daily basis asking you to sponsor a giveaway on their blog or send them an item for review. FaceBook Fans to chat with any time you feel the urge to be social.
Sort of a feeling of popularity mixed with what it might feel like to be a drug dealer. Everyone wants to be your friend because you’ve got the goods! It’s a fun, whirlwind of an experience, and for me it’s over.
With the sale and transfer of my store to another retailer and the creation of my new FaceBook Pages and Blogs to represent my new goals, I am having to experience all over again what it feels like to start from scratch! And you know what? It feels mighty good.
I’m loving each and every comment, tweet and new fan or follower. I’m feeling rejuvenated, hopeful and inspired!
I can’t help but wonder now, perhaps the fear of losing all the loyal fans and customers that I had grown to know and rely upon every day for my “social” life could have been the reason I was so reluctant to get out of the cloth diaper retail business? Transferring ownership of a webstore, blog and facebook page that you’ve babied for 4 years is nothing to sneeze at and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of attachment to it.
The way I see it now is that my “baby” has graduated high school and is off to bigger and better things in the hands of a much more capable owner. An owner who can take it on to it’s next great adventure.
For me, I can’t bear the thought of leaving the cloth diapering community which I have grown to love so much over the last four years and so here I sit as the “Cloth Diaper Geek.” My goal is to continue to share my knowledge and love of the industry and support other retailers in the process.
I’m looking forward to getting to know you all and building a friend and fan base for a whole new set of reasons.
