If you would have asked me five years or longer ago, I would have said NO-WAY to cloth pads or any pads. Just straight up NO. After being raised by a mother who refused to teach me anything but…from about age 15 on I knew I’d be a tampon user for life.
It wasn’t until I got into my thirties, had two pregnancies under my belt and became immersed in the cloth diaper community that I discovered cloth pads. Being a cloth diapering mom, I got it, but I was still not on board with the concept.
The transition was a slow one for me. My first step, ditch the tampons for a menstrual cup.
Step two, keep some cloth pads on hand for when you just want to be comfy, cozy and lazy. Some days you just don’t want to deal with the menstrual cup or your flow is light enough not to warrant the effort. For me this is primarily at night. The luxuriously soft minky fabric that my cloth pads are made of are super soft and really, silly to say, but are a pleasure to wear. Honestly, if you use disposables, then try cloth, you WILL never go back, I promise.
The latest addition to my cloth pad stash are pads from Pink Lemonade Shop. What I like most about Pink Lemonade Shop pads is that they understand that not all women want to wear, nor do they need, monster sized pads. I personally want small, trim, thinner ones. Like cloth diapers, I’d rather wear a smaller lighter pad and change it more frequently than a huge bulky one.
I chose some wild and crazy prints, my favorite is the zebra minky one. Sure fancy prints and fabrics aren’t necessary but they’re fun, plus the crazier and more elaborate the print the less you’ll experience staining and the nicer looking they’ll remain.
If you’re thinking of trying mama cloth and aren’t sure where to start or just want to start by having some on hand for when you are ready to give them a try, I recommend the Mama Cloth Pad Sets. You can start with as few as two or as many as eight and they’re available in an assortment of sizes.
I’m thrilled with the cloth pads I received for review from Pink Lemonade Shop and will definitely recommend them to others looking for quality hand-made pads. I’ll also be back soon to invest in cloth pads for my daughter. Showing her my colorful and funky print pads helped break the ice when we talked about the possibility of her starting her cycle for the first time. She’s open to the idea of cloth and I couldn’t be happier to help her get off on the right foot with a more comfortable and natural alternative to disposables.
