Homemade Laundry Detergent, Duggar style!

This post may contain affiliate links

Came across this link online and thought I’d share and also see if any of you have experience with the Duggar’s recipes?

Duggar Family Recipes (you have to scroll down just a bit to see the laundry soap recipes)

I have heard about many cloth diapering families washing their diapers and laundry with homemade detergents with great success and would love to read about your experiences.  Have you tried making your own?  Did it work out?

The Duggar’s also recommend vinegar for fabric softening.  Have you tried that?

If you’re interested in sharing your thoughts and experience in a blog post I would love that too!  Please email me at shethinksmedia(at)gmail.com for more details on contributor opportunites and some pay-per-post opportunities I have available.

Thanks!

Many people have success with the borax, washing soda, and oxi powder formula. The bar soap formula tends to cause repelling issues. I would love to try it with my own homemade bar soap, but I have a feeling it might be disastrous! There is a big difference between true soap and what are technically detergent bars.

I’ve never tried homemade soap on my diapers. I’m too afraid I’ll ruin them. I have been making my own laundry detergent for clothing for about 1.5yrs. I also make it for my parents and sister. It’s so cheap; only a couple cents a load. I tried conventional detergent while away for the weekend and the smell on our clothes was overpowering. I love my homemade detergent!

I have used this laundry soap for a couple years now and love it. Not sure about using it with cloth diapers since my son is only 7 weeks old and had some Charlie’s Soap already. Here is a link with pictures to my blog post on making it ;) Feel free to link to it!

Been using my own detergent for cloth diapers and clothes (I don’t add the soap to the cloth diaper recipe). 1 cup Borax, 1 cup washing soda, 1 cup Oxiclean. Done. Works well with mine so far (a month or so now). Of course, most of my diapers are flats, so that does make a difference as to what works and what doesn’t. Also, I love using vinegar! Not only does it help rinse the diapers, but it also works as a laundry softener! My flats are cuddly soft. :)

Jeniffer, how much water do you add to that cloth diaper recipe? How much detergent do you use per load for a top load washing machine? I just got my first set of cloth diaper covers & prefold inserts.

I found this recipe online the other day, seems pretty basic. I am trying to save as much money as possible with my baby. Has anyone used the homemade laundry detergent on cloth diapers?
