Experienced cloth diapering mama Patricia cloth diapers for four years before using a sprayer and Spray Pal. Now she’s addicted!
I have been cloth diapering for more than 4 years and I have never owned a sprayer. I’ve used them at friends’ houses and at work when I was a nanny, but I never felt it was worth the investment when I could just dunk-and-swish. Then, I had an opportunity to purchase Spray Pal products from Marigold, a brand new cloth diaper and natural parenting store, and it changed my life!
First off, my Spray Pal sprayer was easy to install. I did not wait for my husband to get home the day it arrived. I double checked to make sure the plumbing on our toilet was the correct flexible hose plumbing, turned off the water valve, disconnected the flexi-hose and installed the sprayer! It took less than 10 minutes from the time I opened the package to the time I was spraying!
It has a shut-off valve built in! That was a lifesaver on more than one occasion when I found my 2-year-old playing with the sprayer head! PHEW! It also has a 47.25” stainless steel spray hose with EPDM braided inner hose. It won’t wear out from use, it won’t puncture accidentally and it will reach to the opposite side of the toilet if, like me, you NEED to use your right hand! My plumbing was to the left side of the toilet and I ran the hose under the tank to the right with plenty of hose length to reach! The wand holder with clip was also a nice feature as it kept the sprayer wand conveniently stored yet accessible.
I have found the diaper sprayer to be indispensable! I have been using it on a daily basis. And not only for Leah’s dirty cloth diapers, but also for bigger kids messes, muddy shoes and rinsing the tub after bathing the dog!
Is the Spray Pal sprayer worth the investment?
I have used other brand name sprayers as well as DIY versions and I really do think the SprayPal sprayer is worth the investment. It may be slightly more expensive than supplies for a DIY or a bidet from a big box store, but it has the features and quality that I wanted; yet the price point is well below other brand name sprayers on the market.
What about the Spray Pal Spray Shield?
I also got a SprayPal Spray Shield from Marigold! Oh boy! I have wanted to try one of these since I first saw them, but I didn’t own a sprayer, so no need for a shield! What a brilliant idea! My main concern with using other people’s sprayers was the “poop storm” that seemed to hit the bathroom if the diaper and sprayer were not at exactly the right angle. There were a lot of messes to clean up.
The spray shield was definitely easy to use. The concept is simple: clip the diaper in, spray mess into the toilet and collapse the shied to squeeze out excess water. After I drop the diaper in my pail, I put the shield back on the toilet to spray it clean. I tried storing it in a number of different ways from leaving it in the toilet, to sitting it in an old ice cream bucket. My preferred storage method was a hanging wetbag. There are several brands that comfortably fit the SprayPal shield as it is only 10” across and 15 ¾” high when folded. I have used an older Monkey Foot Designs size large as well as a new extra large size (with gusseted bottom) to store my shield. Both were more than sufficient.
I did not find the shield to be as important to my diaper washing routine as I thought it would be. The extra steps of using and cleaning the shield were just a bit more than I was used to doing. I’m so used to just dunking diapers by hand that the thought of touching baby poop doesn’t really bother me. But, then again, not many things really gross me out. For those who are grossed out by cleaning dirty diapers, spray more than one diaper per day, have a spare bathroom where they can leave the shield set up or prefer to set their water pressure high, you would enjoy the Spray Pal spray shield for sure!
Why support Spray Pal?
My reasons for supporting SprayPal go far beyond using their products in my daily life, but knowing that my dollars are going to support a family-owned business; Parents who are building a life and providing for their children. But, on top of that, the SprayPal Family is dedicated to supporting their community and promoting the use of cloth diapers through education, connection and….that hashtag! #makeclothmainstream
