I personally was always a Sterling Silver type of a gal. I’d wear a meaningful chain and pendant or earrings until I quite literally wore them out or lost them giving no thought to their absence before moving on to my next set. However after I married I started to change my views on jewelry, it’s quality and importance. My parents had no heirlooms to speak of. No wedding bands or necklaces were going to be passed down to me from generations past and that makes me quite sad. My own wedding ring, although inexpensive and rather simple features white gold and tiny diamonds. After 13 years of marriage it has has fared quite well but considering it’s cost I wonder if it will last long enough to be passed on.
While jewelry that will stand the test of time might not always be high on your priority list or mine, it actually is something to think about. It’s never too late to create heirlooms and memories and I look forward to the day when I can pass on some of my special pieces of jewelry to my daughter, daughter-in-laws or future grand daughters.
